Course Objectives & Description

The NPORS Slinger Signaller Training Course provides delegates with the essential knowledge and hands-on skills required to safely sling loads and guide cranes in accordance with NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) standards.

Upon successful completion, participants will be issued an NPORS Operators Card, valid for 5 years.

Course Objectives:

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Accurately calculate the weight and dimensions of loads and communicate this information clearly to the crane operator.
  • Select, attach, and detach appropriate lifting tackle for various types of loads.
  • Direct crane movements safely by giving clear, precise signals, ensuring the protection of personnel and equipment.
  • Inspect and assess the condition of lifting tackle, and understand how to maintain and store it properly.
  • Demonstrate the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to pass the NPORS assessment.

Who Should Attend:

This course is ideal for anyone responsible for performing the duties of a Slinger Signaller, including those in construction, logistics, and industrial sectors.

Course Content:

The course consists of both theoretical lessons and practical demonstrations, covering the following topics:

  • Introduction to the construction industry and operational best practices.
  • Overview of relevant legislation and safety regulations.
  • NPORS code of signals for crane operations.
  • Calculating safe working loads and selecting appropriate lifting equipment.
  • Understanding the effects of varying angles in multi-leg slings.
  • Identifying hazards associated with crane operations and how to mitigate risks.
  • Preparation for the NPORS assessment, including both theory and practical components.

Course Duration:

The course duration is flexible and depends on the experience level of the participants, the number of delegates, and the instructor-to-machine ratio.

Assessment and Certification:

All participants must complete the NPORS assessment, which evaluates both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Successful delegates will receive an NPORS Operators Card, valid for 5 years. It is also recommended that participants complete the NPORS-specific health and safety test.

Additional Information:

  • Delegates must provide valid photo identification (e.g., passport or driving licence).
