The NPORS Compact Crane Training Course is designed to provide delegates with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely and efficiently operate a compact crane, in line with NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) standards.
Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will:
- Safely and productively operate a compact crane in various work environments.
- Recognize and interpret crane signals to ensure safe communication during operations.
- Position and adjust the crane jib, including altering jib lengths, while understanding the associated safety devices.
- Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of the crane.
- Grasp the fundamental theory of power units, control systems, and transmission systems.
- Program and interpret safe load indicators and duties charts to ensure safe lifting.
- Understand and comply with relevant legislation, statutory regulations, and Codes of Practice.
- Safely sling loads and identify the types and capacities of chains, slings, and lifting gear.
- Comprehend structural strength, including the effects of shock loading, stability, and load displacement.
Certification:
Successful participants will be awarded an NPORS Operators Card, valid for 5 years, certifying their competence in compact crane operations.
Course Content:
- Safe, productive crane operation.
- Understanding and using crane signals.
- Crane jib positioning and safety devices.
- Routine crane maintenance.
- Power units, control systems, and transmission systems.
- Safe load indicators and duties charts.
- Legislation, regulations, and Codes of Practice.
- Safe slinging techniques and lifting gear.
- Structural strength, stability, and load displacement considerations.
Course Duration:
The duration of the training depends on:
- The delegates’ level of experience.
- The number of participants.
- The ratio of delegates to machines per instructor.
NPORS Assessment:
Delegates will undergo a final assessment that covers both theoretical knowledge and practical operation. Upon passing, they will receive the NPORS Operators Card, valid for 5 years. It is also recommended that participants complete the NPORS-specific health and safety test.
Requirements:
- All delegates must bring valid photo identification, such as a passport or driving licence.
- Training can also be delivered at customer premises if facilities meet NPORS testing requirements.
