Course Objectives & Description

Upon successful completion of the IPAF practical test on any one of these boom types, delegates are authorized to operate other Static Boom types under the 1b category, provided they receive familiarisation training on the specific machine they will be using.

  • Introduction and pre-course theory test
  • Overview of MEWP categories
  • Understanding structural parts of MEWPs
  • Relevant regulations: ISO 18878, PUWER, LOLER, RIDDOR, WAHR, MHSW
  • Pre-use inspection and handover procedures
  • Safe operating methods and hazard identification
  • Theory test and practical training
  • Practical assessment
  • Licence renewal and logbook management
  • Course evaluation

The IPAF 1b Operator category focuses on the safe use of Static Booms equipped with outriggers.

This category encompasses various types of booms, including:

  • Trailer-mounted booms
  • Van-mounted booms
  • Truck-mounted booms
  • Spider booms on tracks or wheels

Additional Categories

Participants can also complete additional IPAF categories on the same training day, such as:

  • 3a Mobile Vertical
  • 3b Mobile Boom

On-Site Training

On-site training is offered at your premises throughout the UK and Ireland, subject to minimum participant requirements. A suitable room is necessary for the theory section, and a Static Boom is required for practical training. Each participant must provide the Operator’s Manual and a current Certificate of Thorough Examination (issued within the last 6 months) for the machine.

Certification

Successful delegates will receive:

  • A 1b Static Boom IPAF PAL Card valid for 5 years
  • An IPAF Certificate of Training for the 1b Static Boom category
  • An IPAF Safety Guide
  • An IPAF Log Book

Photographs for the operator card will be taken on-site and are included in the course fee.

Trainee Requirements

  • Participants must be at least 16 years old and medically fit to operate machinery.

PPE Requirements

Trainees are required to provide appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including:

  • Hard Hat
  • Safety Boots
  • Hi-Visibility Vest
  • Harness & Adjustable Restraint Lanyard
