The primary objective of this course is to equip delegates with the essential knowledge and skills required to operate 1b Static Booms efficiently and safely. The IPAF 1b Operator category focuses on the safe operation of Static Booms, which generally have outriggers.
This category includes:
- Van-Mounted Booms
- Truck-Mounted Booms
- Trailer-Mounted Booms
- Spider Booms on tracks or wheels
Once delegates successfully complete an IPAF practical test on one type of Static Boom, they are permitted to operate other types within the 1b category, provided they receive familiarization training on the specific machine being used.

Extra Categories
Additional IPAF categories may be completed on the same training day, subject to prior notice. This includes options such as 3a Mobile Vertical and 3b Mobile Boom.
On-Site Training
On-site training can be arranged at your premises anywhere in the UK and Ireland, subject to minimum participant requirements. A suitable room is needed for the theoretical section, and a Static Boom must be available for practical training. The Operator’s Manual and a copy of the current 6-month Certificate of Thorough Examination for the machine are also required.
Certification
Upon successful completion, delegates will receive:
- A 1b IPAF PAL Card valid for 5 years
- An IPAF Certificate of Training for the 1b Static Boom category
Each delegate will also receive an IPAF safety guide and an IPAF logbook on the day of training. Photographs for the operator card will be taken on-site and included in the course fee.
Trainee Requirements
Candidates for the IPAF courses must:
- Be at least 16 years of age
- Be medically fit to operate machinery
PPE Requirements
Trainees must bring appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including:
- Helmet
- Safety Boots
- Hi-Visibility Vest
- Harness
- Adjustable Restraint Lanyard
