The NPORS Lorry Loader (HIAB) Training Course is designed to equip delegates with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills needed to operate a Lorry Loader (HIAB) safely and effectively, in compliance with NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) standards.
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
- Safely and correctly operate the lorry loader according to manufacturer guidelines and industry best practices.
- Conduct thorough pre-shift inspections to ensure equipment safety and functionality.
- Operate the lorry loader under varying site conditions.
- Safely load and unload the lorry using slinging techniques for lifting loads with the crane.
- Properly set and secure stabilisers, ensuring the machine remains stable and level during operation.
- Correctly engage and disengage the PTO (Power Take-Off) system.
- Perform minor adjustments and routine maintenance services to keep the equipment in good working order.
- Demonstrate the necessary knowledge and practical skills to successfully pass the NPORS assessment.

Course Content:
Delegates will engage in a combination of theoretical lessons, practical demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, covering the following topics:
- Introduction to the construction industry and relevant working practices.
- Overview of current regulations and industry standards.
- Familiarisation with the lorry loader, its components, and controls.
- Pre-shift inspections and safety checks.
- Understanding the main types of lorry loaders and their applications.
- Safe operation of the loader, including loading and unloading the lorry bed.
- NPORS assessment, covering both theoretical knowledge and practical operation.
Course Duration:
The length of the course depends on:
- The delegates’ level of experience.
- The number of participants.
- The ratio of delegates to machines per instructor.
Certification:
All delegates will complete an NPORS assessment, which includes both theory and practical elements. Upon successful completion, participants will receive an NPORS Operators Card, valid for 5 years. Delegates are also encouraged to complete the NPORS-specific health and safety test.
