IPAF PAL+ is an optional, advanced training course designed for MEWP operators who work in higher-risk or challenging environments, such as:
- High-level steelwork
- Confined overhead spaces
- Challenging terrains
Before enrolling in the IPAF PAL+ course, operators must possess a standard IPAF Operator PAL card for the relevant category. For more information on standard IPAF training, see our 3a & 3b IPAF Training Course.
Course Objectives
The primary objective of the IPAF PAL+ course is to provide existing IPAF PAL card holders with in-depth knowledge and training necessary to operate MEWP categories efficiently and safely in high-risk and challenging environments.

- Challenging practical exercises
- Written and practical assessments
- Individual interviews
What MEWPs are Covered under IPAF PAL+?
The IPAF PAL+ course is available for the following categories:
- 3a+ Mobile Vertical
- 3b+ Mobile Boom
- 1b+ Static Boom
- 1a+ Static Vertical

Extra Categories
Different combinations of IPAF PAL+ categories can be completed on the same training day, depending on the number of candidates and prior notice. For further information, please call +353 879 879 757.
Certification
Successful delegates will receive:
- An IPAF PAL+ Card valid for 5 years, featuring a “+” after the category code
- An IPAF Certificate of Training for the categories in which they are tested
- An IPAF Safety Guide
- An IPAF Log Book
Photographs for the operator card will be taken on-site and are included in the training fee.
Trainee Requirements
Candidates for IPAF courses must:
- Be at least 16 years of age
- Be medically fit to operate machinery
- Hold a standard IPAF Operator PAL card in the relevant category prior to taking the IPAF PAL+ course.
PPE Requirements
Trainees are required to bring appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including:
- Hard Hat
- Safety Boots
- Hi-Visibility Vest
- Harness & Adjustable Restraint Lanyard
