Course Objectives & Description

The NPORS Telescopic Handler Suspended Loads Training Course is designed to equip delegates with the essential knowledge and practical skills necessary for operating a telescopic handler with suspended loads, in accordance with NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) standards.

Certification:

Successful delegates will receive an NPORS Operators Card, valid for 5 years.

Who Should Attend:

This course is intended for all personnel required to operate a telescopic handler with suspended loads.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the construction industry, including the inherent dangers and their responsibilities as operators.
  • Comply with manufacturer requirements based on technical data and adhere to relevant regulations and legislation.
  • Locate, identify, and explain safe working loads and lifting capacity charts, including how manufacturers may reduce lifting capacity when moving suspended loads, as well as different lifting configurations and working ranges.
  • Identify and explain various lifting procedures and categorize tasks accordingly.
  • Calculate estimated weights of loads and understand centers of gravity.
  • Identify and assess overhead and proximity hazards.
  • Agree on signal codes and hand signals with the slinger/signaller, ensuring safe movement and landing of loads.
  • Ensure the telescopic handler is in safe condition and that attachments are fitted correctly.
  • Verify load integrity and security.
  • Lift and move loads to designated positions safely and in a controlled manner, minimizing uncontrolled movement.
  • Consider environmental factors during lifting operations.
  • Execute out-of-service and securing procedures.
  • Conduct end-of-shift and shutdown procedures.

Course Content:

Training will include a combination of theoretical lessons and practical demonstrations, covering key areas such as:

  • Overview of the industry and operator responsibilities.
  • Compliance with manufacturer guidelines and regulations.
  • Safe working loads and lifting configurations.
  • Risk assessment and hazard identification.
  • Effective communication with slinger/signaller.
  • Safety checks and trial lifts.

Course Duration:

The duration of the training course is flexible and will depend on:

  • The experience level of the delegates.
  • The number of participants.
  • The ratio of delegates to machines per instructor.

Assessment and Certification:

All delegates will undertake the NPORS assessment, which includes both theoretical and practical components. Upon successful completion, participants will be issued an NPORS Operators Card, valid for 5 years. It is also recommended that all delegates complete the NPORS-specific health and safety test.

Additional Information:

  • Delegates must bring valid photo identification (e.g., passport or driving licence).
  • On-site training is available at your premises if the facilities meet NPORS test criteria.
