NPORS Excavator as a Crane Training Course

The NPORS Excavator as a Crane Training Course aims to equip delegates with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to operate an excavator in crane mode, in compliance with NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) standards.

Certification:

Successful delegates will receive an NPORS Operators Card, valid for 5 years.

Who Should Attend:

This course is suitable for all personnel required to operate an excavator as a crane.

Course Objectives:

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the construction industry, including the inherent dangers and their responsibilities as operators.
  • Comply with manufacturers’ requirements as per technical data and relevant regulations and legislation.
  • Locate and identify safe working loads, interpret lifting capacity charts, and explain different lifting configurations and working ranges.
  • Recognize and explain various lifting procedures, determining which tasks fit into each category.
  • Identify and calculate centers of gravity and estimated weights of loads.
  • Detect and assess overhead and proximity hazards.
  • Agree on signal codes and hand signals with the slinger/signaller, ensuring safe movement and landing of loads.
  • Ensure the excavator is in safe condition for attachments to be fitted.
  • Verify load integrity and security through trial lifts.
  • Lift and move loads to designated positions in a safe and controlled manner, minimizing uncontrolled movement.
  • Consider environmental factors affecting lifting operations.
  • Execute all necessary service and securing procedures.

Course Content:

The training will include a mix of theoretical lessons and practical demonstrations, covering key topics such as:

  • Industry overview and operator responsibilities.
  • Manufacturer guidelines and compliance with regulations.
  • Safe working loads and lifting configurations.
  • Lifting procedures and risk assessment.
  • Load calculations and weight estimation.
  • Hazard identification and mitigation strategies.
  • Effective communication with slinger/signaller.
  • Safety checks and trial lifts.

Course Duration:

The duration of the course is flexible and is influenced by:

  • The experience level of the delegates.
  • The number of participants.
  • The ratio of delegates to machines per instructor.

Assessment and Certification:

All delegates will complete the NPORS assessment, which includes both theoretical and practical components. Upon successful completion, participants will be issued an NPORS Operators Card, valid for 5 years. Delegates are also encouraged to complete the NPORS-specific health and safety test.

Additional Information:

  • Delegates must bring valid photo identification (e.g., passport or driving licence).
  • On-site training is also available at your premises if the facilities meet NPORS test criteria.
